Before Verbal Poo Hits the Fan, We’re Looking for the Founding 500

We’re calling them The Founding 500. These early members will receive a permanent Founding Poo Talker crown on their profile, showing they were part of the original community that helped build the mess.

I’ve spent a long time working around marketing, communications, startups, online communities, and the strange world of social media. Somehow, after all those years, projects, meetings, marketing plans, and probably far too much time staring at screens, all of that experience eventually led me to building a social platform called Verbal Poo. Yes, that is really the name, and once we came up with it, there was really no going back.

The idea behind Verbal Poo actually started with something much more serious than the name suggests. Social media has changed dramatically over the years, and what started as a way for people to connect, share ideas, argue, laugh, discover things, and occasionally post pictures of what they had for lunch has become increasingly polished, repetitive, controlled, and dominated by a handful of enormous companies.

Everyone seems to be chasing algorithms, engagement, followers, and whatever happens to be trending that particular week. People are expected to look successful, happy, beautiful, intelligent, productive, inspirational, emotionally balanced, financially secure, and somehow permanently standing on a beach at sunset.

Real life does not work that way.

People disagree, change their minds, make mistakes, tell ridiculous stories, laugh at inappropriate moments, have strong opinions, and occasionally just need somewhere to say what they are thinking. People want to talk about politics, business, relationships, work, current events, stupid things happening online, serious issues affecting their lives, and sometimes they simply want to talk a little shit.

That is where Verbal Poo came from.

We Didn’t Want to Build Another Perfect Social Network

The world probably does not need another social platform teaching everyone how perfect their life should look. We wanted something that felt more like an actual conversation between real people instead of another carefully manufactured highlight reel.

Verbal Poo is being built around conversations, and those conversations can go in a lot of different directions. Some will be serious, some will be ridiculous, some might actually make you think, and a few will probably make you question how humanity managed to survive this long.

We are developing things like Poo News, trending discussions, Poo Talker rankings, community conversations, profiles, and ways to highlight the people who actually create discussions that others want to join. The platform is currently in beta, which means this is the stage where the people using it can actually help shape what it becomes.

That brings us to something we are calling The Founding 500.

We’re Looking for 500 Real People, Not 500,000 Empty Accounts

We are looking for our first 500 active members, and the word active is important. We are not trying to collect thousands of registrations from people who create an account, look around for eleven seconds, and disappear into the internet forever.

We want people who will post, comment, share ideas, challenge each other, laugh, talk about current events, start conversations, and tell us what they think. We also want people willing to tell us when something works, when something needs improvement, and when we have created something that completely sucks and needs to go back to the drawing board.

The first 500 active members will become part of The Founding 500 and receive a permanent Founding Poo Talker crown on their profile. That crown is our way of recognizing the people who showed up early and actually helped us build the community instead of arriving years later and pretending they were there from the beginning.

If Verbal Poo grows into the wonderfully strange social platform we believe it can become, those first members will always have something on their profile showing that they helped create the original mess.

You will officially be able to say you were here before Verbal Poo hit the fan.

There Is Another Advantage to Getting Here Early

Anyone who has joined a major social platform years after it became popular knows what happens when you try to choose a username. You enter your name and discover it was taken eight years ago by somebody who posted twice and has not logged in since 2019.

You try another version and that one is gone too. Then you add a number, another number, an underscore, your birth year, three random letters, and before long your username looks like the Wi-Fi password printed on the bottom of somebody’s router.

Verbal Poo is still early enough that people have a real chance to claim the username they actually want. As the community grows, that becomes harder, so getting involved during beta comes with a small piece of digital real estate that might become pretty valuable to you later.

A Big Number Does Not Automatically Create a Community

One thing I have learned from working around online communities is that having a huge number of registered accounts does not automatically mean you have built something people care about. A platform can have hundreds of thousands of accounts and still feel completely empty if nobody is actually talking.

I would much rather have 500 people posting, commenting, laughing, disagreeing, sharing ideas, and creating something interesting than 500,000 people silently scrolling through another feed.

That is what this stage of Verbal Poo is about. We are building the personality of the community before we start pushing the platform toward a much larger audience.

The Founding 500 will have a chance to influence what works, what changes, what gets bigger, what disappears, and what completely ridiculous thing we decide to build next. Early users are not walking into a finished room where all the furniture has already been nailed to the floor. They are helping us figure out where the furniture should go.

Who Are We Looking For?

You do not need to be an influencer, professional content creator, comedian, journalist, or somebody with thousands of followers. You just need to have something to say and a willingness to join the conversation.

If you enjoy discovering things before everyone else, starting conversations, giving feedback, sharing your opinions, making people laugh, or occasionally looking at something happening in the world and thinking, “You have got to be shitting me,” there is a pretty good chance you will understand Verbal Poo.

We want different personalities, backgrounds, ideas, experiences, and perspectives because an interesting community should not sound like 500 versions of the same person talking to themselves.

The goal is not for everyone to agree. The goal is to create a place where people can actually talk.

Come Help Us Build the Mess

Verbal Poo is live in beta, and we are opening the door to The Founding 500. This is your opportunity to claim your username, build your profile, drop your first Poo, jump into conversations, test what we are creating, and help influence what comes next.

We are not looking for perfect people, perfectly edited opinions, or perfectly curated lives. We are looking for real people willing to bring their ideas, humor, stories, opinions, questions, and occasional pile of crap to the conversation.

If that sounds like you, come take a look at www.VerbalPoo.com and claim your place while we are still building the original community.

If this thing becomes enormous someday, you can proudly tell everybody you were there before Verbal Poo hit the fan.
