TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Police continued investigating Sunday after a mass shooting near the edge of Florida A&M University’s campus left at least 12 people injured following the school’s homecoming football game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
What happened near Perry Street
Authorities said the shooting broke out Saturday night near the Perry Street area after the game. By Sunday afternoon, several blocks remained blocked off while investigators worked the scene and vendors cleaned up from the previous night’s events.
A witness said the atmosphere changed shortly before 8 p.m., and that a fight was followed by gunfire. The witness also described red markers across the street where police had found shell casings and three backpacks near where paramedics were treating victims.
Who was hurt
Police said 12 people were wounded by gunfire, including six juveniles. Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell said six of the victims were adults and six were juveniles. He also said at least three people had serious injuries and one victim was in serious condition.

The source said one of the 12 injured was not hit by bullets, though it did not say how that person was hurt.
Police response and investigation
Revell said officers already stationed around the event rushed toward the scene to help people get to safety. He said investigators were now trying to identify who was responsible and to piece together exactly what happened.
“They actually ran into this scene in the midst of the chaos,” Revell said.
According to Revell, the criminal investigation unit was gathering information, and forensic teams were photographing the scene and collecting evidence. Police said they were working to identify suspects as quickly as possible.
What university officials and witnesses said
Florida A&M said Sunday that the campus remained safe, but asked people to stay away from the area so the investigation would not be disrupted. The university’s statement came as police kept the surrounding blocks closed.
One man from Miami, who said his son attends Florida A&M, called the shooting shocking. He described the violence as unfortunate for a major event and said he hoped it would not happen again.
For ordinary readers, the shooting is a reminder that large public gatherings can change quickly when violence breaks out, and that police investigations often continue long after the crowd leaves. In this case, the immediate concern remained the condition of the wounded and the effort to identify those responsible while the campus and nearby streets tried to return to normal.
